Chicago is an Architecturally defined city with an extravagant skyline. It has all the hustle and bustle of any other major city in the Northeast and it is also part of the Mid-West. It has a subway system with all the craziness. It has attractions, a ballpark, Millennium Park, and an array of other activities Like any other big city. I am fascinated with cities that have a metro system that allow a means for traveling to and from various locations. It has swag and energy of its own. The following is a list of 5 simple things you can do on a two-day trip to the “Windy City”
1. The Sears Tower (Willis Tower): As infamous as the Empire State Building the sears tower is an amazing architectural feat with an observatory deck that allows a magnificent 360-degree view of the Chicago skyline day or night. Believe it or not you can even step out on the ledge and see right below. From the Skydeck, you can see just how massive Lake Michigan really is. If no one said it was a lake you would think it was the ocean.
2. Millennium Park & Magnificent Mile: Home to the Giant bean and Grant Park right down the road. This park is filled with art, architecture, and sculptures all on its own. It’s a great place to go take photographs and just stroll through. From here you can walk up the Magnificent mile to do some shopping.
3. The Sugar Factory Chicago: While it may not be a Chicago thing it is surely a delight at this place while in Chicago. A full-fledged restaurant and sweet goodies all around. The food is decent but the Goblets is what you visit this place for. As much walking and sightseeing one can do the sugar rush is a brief pick me up.
4. Navy Pier: Inside the navy pier and around there are many activities you can find. You can purchase a ticket for the rides and go-round on the famous “Centennial Wheel”. You can visit one of the museums, take a cruise and if you have the energy maybe even a walking tour. If at all nothing else, then maybe you can just stroll around and enjoy the view.
5. Take a ride on the CTA: This is completely optional but being from New York City, I was obligated to give it a try. The ambiance of Chicago’s underground was oddly familiar to my hometown. Experienced in riding and navigating a huge subway system it was fairly easy to use. On this very brief and enjoyable trip, I opted to use it as transportation to and from the airport.
Chicago is a great city to visit, it has much to offer. There is no shortage of things to do. My few visits to Chicago have always been short-lived. My visits have never been more than a day or two. However; like Frankie said “This is my kind of town” and it deserves another more detailed visit. Most likely with a local guide to see and do what some of the locals do and definitely pay a visit to “Chicago 360”!
